For this chair I took the best of both designers and created a childs version of the 1917 lounge from square-tube steel.

Steel Rietveld
At St Andrews I wrote my Art History dissertation on Marcel Breuer and Gerrit Rietveld and more specifically Breuer's 1925 Wassily chair, which was the first to use tubular steel, and Rietveld's 1917 red/blue lounge, which many consider to be the first truly 'modern' chair.

Bertoia ZoE chair
For this project (a Birthday gift) I started with a vintage Knoll Bertoia side chair, sprayed it white and covered it with over 1500 foam strips that I hand cut.
I was inspired by Douglas Homer's Hairy Bertoia diamond chairs ($4000+) but wanted a version with a wide variety of colors and it was also important for me to create a far more affordable alternative, which this certainly is!
